Nestled in the rolling and picturesque hills of Italy, there is a quaint town called San Giovanni in  Galdo. A walk down the narrow cobblestone roads leaves visitors feeling as though they’ve entered a storybook from their childhood. This magical little town is the hometown of Giovanni Geremia, a principal of GW Architecture Inc.

Giovanni lived in San Giovanni in Galdo until the age of ten when his family immigrated to Canada. Although his roots were never forgotten, he did not return to his home...

Fifteen years ago, a young boy died in a Winnipeg hospital never having entered a home with his family; his name was Jordan River Anderson. Jordan was born to a family in Norway House Cree Nation, Manitoba with multiple disorders that required him to remain in hospital care. At the age of two Jordan was well enough to be transported to a home, except Jordan never went home. The provincial and federal governments battled over who should cover Jordan’s medical expenses at home, down to the minuscu...

There is never a dull moment working at GW Architecture Inc! The GW team likes to keep work-life interesting by periodically taking on international projects, such as in Nicaragua. With a personal home 30 minutes south of San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua, one of the principals of our team enjoys the opportunity to take on projects in Nicaragua each year. The designs are unique, the climate is tropical, and the views are to die for; these projects are a favourite! As with all things worthwhile, these...

As any professional can attest, we spend a lot of hours at our workplace - dependent on your career, some people may spend more time with their co-workers than with their own family. While we try to not make this the norm at GW Architecture Inc. we do recognize that our work family is an integral part of our lives.

Our co-workers become an extended branch of our family. We see each other each morning for our first (or second) cup of coffee, we eat meals together (often at Pho No.1), we support e...

GW Architecture Inc. is proud to showcase another design competition submission in Italy!

The Observatory Houses intervention, located adjacent to the Medieval Castle of Raccascalegna, encourages a variety or ways to explore the enchanting skies and landscape that surrounds it. The proposed design solution aims to create an exclusive experience for visitors, as the joining of architecture, the heavens, and nature becomes a tangible adventure.  The space promotes the act of immersing...

Another year, another boat load of fish to be caught at Lake of the Woods. As a team, we caught a whopping fifty two fish! We didn't keep all of them, but enough to fry up a delicious shore lunch for ourselves, and with enough of the filet leftover to keep the birds happy.

Tony took home the prize for most fish caught, but we will all be chasing him for the big title next year!

The results are in, and we're excited to share our submission to the Castle Resort Competition, another Young Architects Competition that we entered this winter. This competition was particularly exciting for us, since Giovanni will be heading to his hometown in Italy next week, which is located about 20 minutes away from the site of this project. Check out our submission below, and please feel free to let us know what you think!

Visitors are immersed in a unique relationship with the l...

A few months ago we entered a design competition, focused on creating an experiential beer garden in the shell of an old warehouse in the Italian countryside. We felt like the competition would be a good fit for us, as it involved our love of design, heritage buildings, Italy, and beer! Continue reading our concept statement and get an idea of what influenced our design approach.

The Experiential Beer Garden of Villa Zarri, located in the heart of the Emilian countryside, supports...
