Heritage Winnipeg Award Special President's Award!
We are very pleased to announce that gw architecture inc. was honoured with the 2014 Special President's Award for the Preservation of a Neighbourhood Landmark!
Along with the Stonebridge Development Group we worked hard to turn the First Church of Christ, Scientist into a profitable 46 unit multi-family dwelling and it was great to be recognized by Heritage Winnipeg.
Principal architect, Giovanni Geremia was unable to attend the award ceremony but this is his fifth award from Heritage Winnipeg. Fortunately, our very own Brian Wall along with Cheryl Dueck (Stonebridge Development) was present to accept the award yesterday at the 29th Annual Preservation Awards Ceremony (held at the James W. Burns Executive Education Centre - I.H. Asper School of Business on Lombard Avenue, Winnipeg). In celebration of National Heritage Day and Louis Riel Day, this event recognizes projects that have contributed to the preservation of Winnipeg's built heritage. Congratulations to all the nominees and winners!
This was a challenging project which succeeded in not only saving the structure (which was once threatened with demolition) but also in making the project profitable for the developer. The structure is nearly fully occupied with only a few units available at this time. Studio 511 was 5 years in the making and we are very proud have been involved. We are also very grateful to Cindy Tugwell, the judging committee (which includes Neil Einarson, Province of Manitoba; Murray Peterson, City of Winnipeg; Jim Kacki, Architect; Les Stecheson, Architect and Kyle Lewkowich, Manitoba Education) and the president, board and staff of Heritage Winnipeg for putting together a well-organized and classy award ceremony!
