Sandy Bay Health Centre

Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation, Manitoba

Sandy Bay is a First Nation community located on the west side of Lake Manitoba. GW Architecture Inc has been engaged to develop a program and preliminary design for a new facility to accommodate the expanding heath delivery needs of the community.

Health services are presently delivered in an aging facility of approximately 7,000 square feet. The existing space was not designed with the intent to accommodate the multitude of programs and services currently being provided.

The vision statement of the Sandy Bay Health Centre is "emotional, mental, physical, spiritual wellness for all." To provide appropriate and integrated health services that address the centre's vision, a new facility of approximately 50,000 square feet will be required. GW Architecture Inc. has been working with the Sandy Bay Health Centre design committee to prepare a feasibility study and develop a program addressing the communities needs. The future centre will include home and community care, health and education services, wellness programs, fitness, diabetes unit, foot care program, pharmacy, technical and research services, physiotherapy, head-start program, Jordan's Principle, counselling and healing centre, with traditional healing incorporated throughout all programs.

The feasibility study is complete with the project proceeding into a conceptual design stage.
