Optical Surgery Clinic; Winnipeg, Manitoba

 

gw architecture inc. was contracted to provide services for a new optical surgery clinic in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The existing pre-engineered building required that existing structure, roof, and exterior walls remain mostly unchanged. Our team proposed a design solution that incorporated a new second floor structure, that was installed independent from the existing structure. The result transformed a former bulk food store into a high end eye laser clinic.

The new space has two fully operational optical surgery units on the main floor. These surgery spaces allow for patients to be placed under anesthesia, permitting the surgeons to perform sophisticated eye procedures. There are three rooms dedicated to performing laser eye procedures, and one larger room with a special piece of equipment that requires a consistent temperature of 20 degrees Celsius and humidity of 20%.

The main floor is dedicated to client services, with examination rooms, procedure rooms, sterilization rooms for equipment, linens, and surgeons, doctor's staff rooms, two reception areas, and a pre/post operation room for clients. The second floor is solely for staff use. It includes administration offices, a conference room, lunch room, a gym, lockers, and storage.
